She is Miss Malaysia Kiran Jassal for the 65th Miss Universe
![]()
Kiranmeet Kaur Baljeet Singh Jassal can be quite a mouthful, so call her Kiran Jassal for short. She is aged 20, stands 5’8.5″ and is a Dentistry student at the International Medical University who plans to put up her own orthodontic practice in the future.
In an interview with the Malaysian Times, Kiran admits that she draws a lot of inspiration from her mom – Ranjit Kaur – who was Mrs. World Malaysia 2015. “…when I wanted to apply for the Miss Universe Malaysia via online check in thing, she was already a (Mrs. World Malaysia) finalist. I would load the page then cancel it and I would think “No la”, I’m just 19 years old, I just finished college, what am I thinking, then she was like, no, if you are never going to try, you are never going to know and she was like come on look, I’m 50 years old and I’m putting myself out there, you are just 19, don’t tell me you can’t do the same. Then I was like “ok la, she makes a good point”, so then I submitted it and a month later I heard back from applying, and a month after that , I got an email saying , “congratulation , you are now a finalist”, so just taking that leap of faith.”

Kiran represents the new breed of Malaysian multi-ethnic women
![]()
Kiran represents the new breed of young Malaysian multi-ethnic women – hip, urban, relevant, real (
the four catch words for the Miss Universe Malaysia competition). And she plans to show how different her pageant approach will be compared to national predecessors.
So far, Kiran is catching a lot of fire among Miss Universe followers and enthusiasts. Will this translate to an even more popular presence in Manila once all eighty-five (85) delegates are accounted for?
Please share your take on Kiran, dear readers. In the meantime, here’s a day from her online video diary.
