The Philippines is my Beauty Camp – Jonas Gaffud
Basically, Project: Beautiful You is “an advocacy campaign that trains young women in local pageants and school organizations around the country to be positive, confident, witty, graceful, and instrumental in uplifting each other.” In a nutshell, it would be saying that not all crowns are the same. Beyond dreams of a gem-encrusted tiara that only a few can actually wear, any Filipina can always be pro-active in pushing for inner beauty and empowerment as powerful tools in building a diadem of strong values to bring out the best in herself.

The five (5) golden-hearted ladies who will serve as advisers of Project: Beautiful You
With the help of an advisory council (Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup-Lee, Janine Tugonon, Ariella Arida and Megan Young) assembled to compliment the beauty caravan’s mission, Project: Beautiful You will endeavor to:
“1) Enhance beauty and confidence of women
2) Promote Filipina beauty and heritage
3) Discuss and explore what real beauty is all about.
4) Initiate a venue where these young women can have a concrete platform for them to help each other, be of service to communities, and create a positive impact among the youth.
5) Create an online community/support group for them to share ideas, voice out their opinions and concerns in their communities.“
Prior to the launch, three beauty caravans have already been conducted in Lin Ay Sang, Negros, Bacnotan, La Union and with the candidates of Miss Teen Earth and Little Miss Earth Philippines 2014. And in the weeks and months to come, more provincial tours will be scheduled by the team.

Very soon, an online community portal will rise via http://www.projectbeautifulyou.com where registered members will get the chance to air their interests, concerns and what-have-yous in a support group kind of set-up. One beauty queen will be assigned as spokesperson of the week who will take care of answering questions and replying to topic-related queries. The nice thing here is that former beauty queens from a different camp (like Karen Agustin, Denille Valmonte and Lara Quigaman) have also volunteered their services for the same.
Project: Beautiful You may appear to be just a grassroots kind of beauty search to some. But if we try to dig deeper into the core of the advocacy, the real essence stands out by way of giving the Filipina – regardless of age, looks, height and weight – the right channels to explore and spread her still-untapped potentials and become an individual much more deserving of a mere crown on top of her head.
