Miss World Philippines 2013: the final screening that was never finalized

As if time is not a major issue for Cory Quirino and everyone involved in Miss World Philippines 2013, yesterday’s scheduled final screening at Solaire Resort and Casino got underway alright. But the absence of the anticipated provincial applicants (who couldn’t make it on time) forced an ‘extension’ of the final screening till Monday, July 29. Not that I am an anti-extension advocate ever since Bb. Pilipinas Gold earlier this year, but the clock is ticking fast. With this new development, I doubt it very much if they can still push through with (all or some of) the planned fast-track events now that the Official Candidates have not even been announced yet.

I was told that the magic number of qualified OCs (25-30 maybe?) has not been reached yet, so time to stretch what has already been pulled and twisted for so long. Why not come up with just a small group of contenders? What the heck, why not just crown the most deserving among those who attended the final screening? What’s the use of accomodating late applicants when the eventual winner will be so pressed to build a fabulous wardrobe as well as to psyche herself up for Miss World 2013? A dire need for fillers? It’s like the personal schedules of these ladies (Megan, Ria and Patricia included) are at the organizers’ mercy and have effectively turned from knotty to messy.

Okay, I’m not shouting at the top of my lungs here. Just concerned. Seriously. :-(
