Yesterday, July 29, saw the arrival of many familiar faces who signed up and screened for Miss World Philippines’s final hurrah for candidates in this year’s edition. Makes me wonder why it took this long for most of them (save for those who just completed their Mutya ng Pilipinas stint last July 26) to actually show up and be counted.
Anyways, there is the very tall (5’11″) Paula Estenzo who is a relative newbie in our eyes. There is also Vina Openiano who failed to capture a top Mutya spot inspite of being a strong favorite. You can also check out Bb. Pilipinas Gold alumni Mercegrace Raquel and Zandra Flores (who also took part in Mutya), plus BBP2012′s youngest candidate – Nicole Marable. And then there’s Miss Bikini Philippines 2013 Janicel Lubina. The one who surprised me, though, is MWP2011 3rd Princess Bianca Paz who is taking the risky move of re-screening after already placing before.
So back to my original question. Why book the red eye of final screenings instead of taking part in last week’s more appropriate casting call at Solaire? Perhaps, it’s the more desirable impact? Or it could also be the fact that some of these beauties were tugged and convinced just in the nick of time to try their luck? Or is it because, as some kibitzers remarked, a sort of desperate move for the organizers to assemble an extra news-worthy group of contenders. However which way you look at it, Miss World Philippines 2013 is gearing up to become the most time-pressured national pageant our country has ever witnessed.
Good luck to all the joiners!
