So it has already been announced in the Miss USA website that this year’s national finals will be held at the River Center of Baton Rouge, Louisiana on June 8. This should be interesting because we are so used to seeing Las Vegas hosting for several years now.
Miss New York USA Candace Kendall is still in touch with her Filipino roots despite growing up all her life in the US.
And since we’re in the subject of Miss USA, allow me to feature one state winner who may somewhat be of particular interest to Filipinos.
Miss New York USA 2014 Candace Kendall is part-Filipino, aside from having Dutch lineage. Her mother is full American, while her father is half-Pinoy and half-Dutch, with grandparents residing here in the Philippines. She doesn’t have any idea how to speak Filipino, but she heard of Tagalog being spoken in the household when she was still young.
Now at 25, the professional model is setting her sights on doing well in the nationals and win the crown so she can represent the USA in Miss Universe 2014 to be hosted by Fortaleza, Brazil in October.
It could be a tall order for Candace (who held the title of Miss Teen New York back in 2006) given the exceptionally beautiful batch of state reps going to Baton Rouge around two months from now. But she will do her best to make fellow New Yorkers proud.
