I’m giving this space to one of our regular readers (who requested anonymity) who did an over-all review of Miss Earth 2013 – not just the final pageant itself but everything that transpired from start to finish.
=======================
Here’s my honest-to-goodness review for the recently concluded Miss Earth.
DELEGATES
Amazing set of delegates from 89 countries making Miss Earth the second biggest beauty pageant in the world. All the delegates not only displayed beauty inside and out but proved that they want to save Mother Earth.
PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
Miss Earth Organization provided the best activities for its delegates surpassing the activities of any existing pageant in the world. Each delegate was treated like a winner.
PRELIMINARY COMPETITIONS VENUES
Although all preliminary competitions seem to have no bearing in the selection of Top 16, Carousel should hold Evening Gown, Swimsuit and Resorts Wear in a bigger place. F1 is obviously not the place for such events.
MAIN EVENT VENUE & PRODUCTION
Contrary to the protests of some pageant fanatics, VERSAILLES PALACE was a great venue to hold such prestigious event. With dramatic lighting effects, the place really looked classy and glam at the same time.
HOSTS
The husband-and-wife team of Oli and Linda was near perfect. There was no boring moment during the event. Only when Oli called out the last of the 16 semifinalists when he should have announced that it was the last country on the list to drum up a bit of suspense. Calling out that many names to centerstage needed a bit of drama.
JUDGES
There should be two sets of judges. One for preliminary that would decide who should be on the first major cut and another set on the finals. Although fair judgement has been exhibited, inviting a judge each from sponsors is mediocre and a BIG NO-NO. No offense but seeing the Director of Sales and Marketing of F1 Hotel along with the head of Hanna in the board was a total shocker and definitely not acceptable. They should have invited the likes of Ms Maria Rosario Santos-Concio, Ms. Priscilla Meirelles de Almeida-Estrada and Mr. Rajo Laurel.
MAIN EVENT SEGMENTAL COMPETITIONS
Top 16-Top 8-Winners Arrangement is not acceptable. I cannot understand why Carousel decided to remove the Final 4. Leaving 4 finalists behind is so deglamorizing. They should have two semifinal rounds. The first with 16 semifinalists to compete for swimwear. Then cut to second semifinal round with 8 semifinalists who will display their grace and elegance in evening gowns. Then all eight semifinalists will be interviewed by the hosts with questions relating to their experiences during pre-pageant activities. Then cut to Final 4 when the guaranteed elemental queens will be challenged by the judges with questions that require their pure intention and intelligence.
ONLINE VOTING
Carousel should pioneer an online voting with pre-selected candidates, i.e., professional photographers choose the top 8 most photogenic delegates and only those eight are eligible for election. The same rule applies for the Eco-Beauty Videos.
SUGGESTED RESULTS
If Carousel is true to its mission, the winner of Eco-Beauty should automatically be placed in the first semifinal round. Also, evening gown, swimwear, resorts (or casual) wear preliminary competitions should have bearings to the selection of semifinalists and top winners should also have guaranteed placement in semifinals along with Miss Photogenic.
Preliminary judgement should be 15% swimwear, 15% evening gown, 20% resorts wear, 20% Eco-Beauty and 30% preliminary interview. Resort (casual) wear has higher bearing because Miss Earth is expected to work hard with comfortable clothing ensuring that the possible winner projects the image of a queen.
ACTUAL RESULTS AND WINNERS
- Miss Venezuela already won from the evening gown competition. Her Q&A performance may not be the best but good enough for her to seal the
crown.
- Misses India and Ukraine should have made it in the semifinals.
- Miss Philippines aced the Q&A and should therefore be an elementa queen.
- Miss South Africa would have added a dash of newsworthiness had she made Top 8 at the very least. Ashanti could have weaved Nelson Mandela in her answer if ever.
OVERALL PRESENTATION:
MORE THAN SATISFACTORY!!!
