Last Sunday, August 16, we lost another former Miss Universe. The winner of the 1967 crown, Sylvia Hitchcock, succumbed to cancer and will be forever remembered as one of the Miss USA titleholders who went on to win Miss Universe.
In this article by Kathy Leigh Berkowitz, it was written that “The little girl who grew up on a chicken farm in Miami and ascended to the title of Miss Universe 1967 has bid this world farewell, and left behind a legacy of love and giving, accomplishment and living, that not many in the common world achieve…”
Long-time friend Barbara Harvard was also quoted in the same write-up saying that ” “She was the same every time you saw her. She was just Sylvia. With her as Miss Universe, that could have made her arrogant. But Sylvia was Sylvia, she was never above anybody.”
