The last group of six completes the thirty (30) contenders

mutya20141 I now present to you the twenty-one (21) Philippine-residing candidates of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2015. Interestingly enough, most of these ladies are representing the provinces. Save for the Manila entrant, they are all wearing sashes from their provincial roots instead. But that doesn’t matter, even if the two girls from the Visayas are coming only from Cebu. What’s more important really is the pleasant quality of contenders vying for the three (3) crowns at stake.

One qualifier I am particularly proud of is Alessandra Casimiro who was the regional winner of Mutia ti La Union which I helped judge earlier this year. She has blossomed into quite a competitive player. And then there is also Leren Bautista from Laguna who comes from the stable of Ghune Katigbak who we all associate with Ara Arida. This tall lass has also been transformed into a more refined contestant who can go head-to-head with the other comers.

Two (2) of the more familiar faces in the group are Brenna Cassandra Gamboa of Nueva Ecija and Jillean Urbina of Manila. The former has taken part in Miss Philippines Earth and Miss World Philippines, while the latter was recently named 4th Runner-Up during Miss Manila 2015. Both of them are Bb. Pilipinas alumni.

There is a quartet I am gradually leaning to, and I consider them relatively fresh faces in the pageant scene who are brimming with potentials. The four are Angelynne Huxley Cabrera of LA Paz, Tarlac, Martina Fausto Diaz of Antipolo City, Jessica Rose McEwen of Central Luzon and Julee Ann Marie Bourgoin of Cagayan de Oro City. They provide the healthy breathe of fresh air in the roster (aside from a few from the Overseas Communities). Hopefully, one or two among them can go far in the finals.

In summary, I can only say that Mutya ng Pilipinas never fails to surprise me with their competitors. Just like in the 2014 batch where eventual winner Eva Patalinjug charmed me from start to finish, I’m sure there will be a nice set of strong performers who are doing the nationals for the first time.
