Sunday Specials: What if Lucia and Diya won?

Miss Colombia Lucia Aldana (L) and Miss Mauritius Diya Beeltah during MU2013.

It doesn’t take a lot to understand that two of this year’s Miss Universe contestants have released separate online statements throwing potshots at Miss Universe and the organization behind it. While Miss Mauritius Diya Beeltah has already denied making the complaints that allegedly came from her, Miss Colombia Lucia Aldana is particularly more visible with her pronouncements which equally attacked her national organization.

As I’ve said before, there is some grain of truth in Diya’s allegations, but when the story included a non-participating Miss Kosovo, everything went from sympathy-seeking to downright doubtful. And to think that there were even minuscule ripples at the onset saying that she might have been kidnapped on her way to Moscow.

As for Lucia, her side is more of airing her sentiments about how she lacked support from the Miss Colombia Org, vis-a-vis with how strong favoritism works with Donald Trump and his team. The rabid support of the Filipino fans with Miss Philippines was also something that got included in the same. But what can we do? The incessantly strong rallying of Ariella’s supporters is one reality MUO has no control over (and are quite pleased with).

At the end of the day, none of these would have created some online noise if only both ladies placed in the Top 16 at the very least. However, I reckon Mr. Trump would not be happy seeing either of them getting top placements, knowing that they (or the people around them) would make unnecessary intrigues at the slightest hint of discomfort given to them.

So what if Lucia and Diya won? Well, it’s all hypothetical. But I would rather stop here than give them any more online mileage than what has already been created. ;-)
