Maureen Ava Vieira of Aruba was not exactly an instant favorite among the candidates of Miss Universe 1974 held in Manila. But as days and weeks passed by, her beauty and elegance gradually grew on the discerning Filipino pageant fans such that she was cheered upon in all their remaining appearances and activities. When morning of the finals came, it was clear that this lady from the small Caribbean island will be a force to reckon with. She managed a spot in the Top 12 and tallied scores good enough to reach the Top 5. She was named 4th Runner-Up in the end.

But Maureen’s romance with the Pinoys did not end there. She was signed up to do two (2) local movies afterwards. The first was a comedy with popular cager Francis Arnaiz and the late Chiquito titled “Miss Aruba Went to Town”, followed by a drama “Sa Pagitan ng Dalawang Langit” (In Between Two Heavens) with Dante Rivero.

Let’s extend the throwback. Here now is a clip from Miss Universe 1974.

4:36 into the video below, watch Maureen’s semifinal interview with host Bob Barker.
