Miss Galaxy and Miss Supracontinental, anyone?

There is obviously a heightened level of interest in coming up with new international beauty pageants in the Philippines. Never mind if the titles are based on the system of stars in the sky or a play of words coined from existing ones. While I am not too excited yet about their efforts, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

First, there is the Cebu-based and founded (by Miss Galaxy Foundation) Miss Galaxy, an international beauty pageant that aims to focus on beauty for education. The objective appears to be dedicated enough. And given the ‘new-ness’ of the title, the organizers seem to be more realistic with their timetable as this one is earmarking their inaugural edition for 2016. I’m not aware yet as to how the Philippine rep will be chosen.

And then, here comes a second one, which is the more interestingly-combined title that is Miss Supracontinental, perhaps borne out of adding Supranational and Intercontinental. Now the objective of this planned competition is to go for the rights of women and children. One of the difference here is that they are looking at hosting Miss Supracontinental this year, probably months after the Miss Supracontinental Philippines 2015 contest.

In any funding-intensive pageant effort, it is very important to establish a solid reputation right from the get-go. And I hope that the people behind Miss Galaxy Pageant and Miss Supracontinental are dead serious in mounting their respective endeavors so as to insure the kind of positive image they will project to countries who will send entries or, even before that, the individuals who will apply to become their National Directors.
