But can someone tell me why there are so many Thai delegates wearing those pink sashes here?

There are only 16 Official Candidates for Miss Asean 2014. So what's the purpose of the other ladies in attendance, like the beautiful Thai beside Ferina who happens to be a good friend of our bet now?

A purely innocent question on my part. The presence of so many Thai candidates wearing those sashes with pink-colored Thai scripts, that is. Are they competing for the same title or a separate title? As far as I know, there are only sixteen (16) confirmed joiners. Does host Thailand have more than a dozen entries?

So I went on to chat with Miss Philippines Ferina Juny-Ann Carpio last night and here’s her reply.

Tito, kung sino mananalo sa kanila bukas ang magco-compete sa December 30 for Thailand…” (Tito, whoever will win among them tomorrow (which is tonight, the 29th) will compete on December 30 for Thailand)

Kind of odd, if you ask me. But hey, something similar was also held in some previous Miss International editions where the representative of Japan was crowned shortly before the finals.

At any rate, the coronation of Miss Asean 2014 will culminate in a grand event tomorrow night at the A-Star Phulare Valley in Chiang Rai.

Let’s hope either Ferina or Yhen Diaz will come out victorious. ;-)
