Back in the day when the title was still called Grasim Mr. International (it was named that way till 2003), the Philippines won the honor during the 2001 edition held in India.

Alexander Aquino, whose mixed roots are courtesy of a Spanish-Filipino father and an Irish-Korean mother, grew up in Seattle but went to Asia (and the Philippines eventually) to pursue a successful career in modeling. At one time, he was even named one of the Top 10 Bachelors in the Philippines by Cosmopolitan Magazine. It was here that he was heralded as the Philippine entry to Mr. International 2001 which he eventually nailed to the delight of everyone back home.

alexaquino21 After that win, Alex spent three more years working as a fashion and photographic model in the region before he finally decided to return to the US to try his luck as an actor, while doing some marketing business with his cousin, Gina.

He did land a number of guesting gigs on American TV in shows like Passions and Half & Half and also appeared in indie movies (Goldfish, AmerAsian and Great American Dream).

There is little update on what Alex is up to nowadays. I sure hope he’s going to surprise us with a new project or perhaps, a visit to the Philippines. ;-)
